AVID at Pomona

At Pomona Elementary School, AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is an integral part of our commitment to helping every student reach their full potential and develop the skills they need for lifelong success. Through AVID's WICOR strategies—Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading—students build confidence, strengthen critical thinking skills, and become active, engaged learners. They learn to take ownership of their education through focused note-taking, meaningful academic discussions, inquiry-based learning, effective organization, and goal setting.

AVID is embedded throughout our schoolwide culture and supports our academic programs, leadership opportunities, positive behavior expectations, and social-emotional learning. Together, these practices create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every child feels valued and empowered to succeed. At Pomona Elementary, we believe every student has the potential to become a confident learner, compassionate leader, and responsible citizen who is prepared for college, career, and a bright future.
